Someone Familiar is a collection of unreleased songs by Hopewell Exchange, these tracks were recorded between 2008 and 2010. They range from intimate explorations, original takes, live tracks, and covers. Nearly half come from when Michael was recording under the title 'Someone Familiar' before the Hopewell Exchange project had solidified. The cover songs source from Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, Hank Williams, Gram Parsons, and Bonnie Prince Billy. The rough tracks range from being alternate takes on tracks from the first three albums to source recordings that developed into something else, or even tracks that had a shine but didn't seem just right yet. This release is intended as a thank you to friends and family for support over the years.
